Amphibians in U.S. zoos

Amphibians are the quietest conservation emergency in the zoo world. Chytrid fungus and habitat loss have driven catastrophic declines worldwide, and a number of species now survive only in managed collections. Zoo amphibian facilities are frequently off-display biosecure rooms rather than public exhibits, which means the institutions doing the most important work here often get the least visible credit for it. Where amphibians are exhibited, small well-lit vivaria with dense planting show them far better than the large sparse tanks that suit reptiles.
