About the golden conure
The golden conure, also called the golden parakeet, is a medium-sized, bright golden-yellow parrot from the Amazon Basin of northern Brazil. It is 34 to 36 cm long, with green wing feathers, a horn-coloured beak and pale pink eye rings. Its range lies between the Tocantins, lower Xingu and Tapajos rivers in Para state, in drier upland rainforest. It feeds on fruits such as mango and acai, flowers, buds, seeds and crops such as maize. It is highly social, and breeding pairs are assisted by helpers that raise the young, an arrangement almost unique among parrots.
