About Creation Zoo

The Creation Zoo is the animal area of the Creation Museum at 2800 Bullittsburg Church Rd. in Petersburg, Kentucky, about 4 miles west of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, according to Wikipedia. The museum is operated by Answers in Genesis, a ministry founded by Ken Ham, and the zoo's page says the zoo provides biblical teaching on "godly environmental stewardship." The zoo is not accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

All zoo activities are included with museum admission, according to the zoo's page, so the zoo is not ticketed separately. The Creation Museum opened on May 28, 2007, according to Wikipedia.

History

Wikipedia reports that in October 2021 the museum announced expansion plans that included the Eden Teaching Center, described as an addition to the museum's animal space and petting zoo with a new animal facility. Classrooms in the Eden Teaching Center now host some of the zoo's animal encounters, according to the zoo's page.

Exhibits and habitats

The zoo's page lists several areas.

The Farmyard holds alpacas, donkeys, pigs and a goat herd, and during select times guests can interact with the goats in their habitat. Wallaby Walkabout is a marsupial habitat with giant tortoises; during select times visitors can walk through it with no barriers. The South America Habitat houses mammals and birds from South American regions.

The Butterfly House is a seasonal attraction, running from late spring to early fall, with hundreds of butterflies and moths, and the page says visitors learn about metamorphosis and how it parallels the gospel message. The Creature Feature House covers defense and attack structures in animals, which the page ties to Genesis 3, and teaching on stewardship of creation drawn from Genesis 1.

Conservation and programs

Animal encounters are live shows held at the Wonders of Creation Stage and in the Eden Teaching Center classrooms on select dates. The zoo's page names tarantulas, snakes and an armadillo among the featured animals. A blog post dated April 9, 2026 says encounters are among the most popular features of the zoo, feature a variety of invertebrates, reptiles and exotic mammals with a different theme each time, and take place most days throughout the year. The post names Boulder, a three-banded armadillo, as one of the ambassador animals, and says programs are subject to change with weather and availability.

Keeper Chats are staff-led sessions about animal behavior, with training demonstrations and photo opportunities.

Planning your visit

The zoo's page directs visitors to the daily schedule for hours, and the blog post directs them to the museum's daily programs page for encounter themes and times. The museum also offers other attractions on the grounds, including zip lines, a planetarium, botanical gardens and a 4D theater, according to the April 2026 post. Admission details are on the museum's website.

Distances are straight-line. A dash means we haven't confirmed that detail yet, not that the zoo lacks it.

AZAThe Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Accredited members have passed an independent inspection of animal care and welfare, safety, conservation and education, repeated every five years. Many smaller facilities never apply, so “not accredited” isn't a verdict on its own. What accreditation means · How we check this
