New York's zoos range from the five Wildlife Conservation Society parks in New York City to regional zoos upstate and small private animal parks. The Bronx Zoo opened in 1899 on more than 265 acres, while Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Queens Zoo are compact city sites run by the same organization. Upstate, Buffalo Zoo dates to 1875 and sits in Delaware Park, Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester has been open since 1894, and Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, founded in 1914, has been AZA-accredited since 1987. Trevor Zoo in Millbrook is notable for being on a high school campus. Zoo New York in Watertown features native wildlife, and Bear Mountain State Park has the Trailside Museums and Zoo.
