About the carpet python
The carpet python is a large snake found across Australia, New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago and the northern Solomon Islands. Adults usually measure 2 to 4 m (6.6 to 13.1 ft) and weigh up to 15 kg (33 lb), with females often much heavier than males. Colouring is highly variable, from olive to black with white, cream and gold markings in diamond-shaped or banded patterns. It favours life in trees but also basks on open ground, and kills small mammals, birds and lizards by constriction. Females lay 10 to 50 eggs and coil around them, using muscular contractions to generate heat.
