About the sulphur-crested cockatoo

The sulphur-crested cockatoo is a large white cockatoo of wooded habitats in Australia, New Guinea and some Indonesian islands. It is 44 to 55 cm long, with a yellow crest, yellow-tinged underwings and tail, and a black bill. Its raucous calls carry through forest, and the birds are curious, intelligent and adaptable, living in many Australian towns and cities. They nest in tree hollows on beds of wood chips, laying two to three eggs. When a flock feeds on the ground, at least one bird stands guard high in a tree. Where they are very numerous they can damage crops and timber, so they are sometimes treated as pests.
