About the barrow's goldeneye
Barrow's goldeneye is a medium-sized sea duck that breeds on wooded lakes and ponds mainly in northwestern North America, with scattered populations in eastern Canada and Iceland. Males average 49 cm (19.2 in) long and have a dark, purplish-glossed head with a white crescent at the front of the face, while females have mostly yellow bills. It is a diving bird that forages underwater for aquatic insects, crustaceans and pond vegetation. It nests mainly in cavities in mature trees, and the female picks the site and lays 6-12 eggs. Most birds winter in protected coastal waters or open inland waters, and it is a fairly quiet species.
