About the oberhasli goat
The Oberhasli is a modern American breed of dairy goat that derives from the Chamois Colored Goat of the Oberhasli district in the Bernese Oberland of central Switzerland. All purebred Oberhasli descend from five Chamois Colored Goats imported to the United States in 1936. Until the 1970s such animals were registered as Swiss Alpines. The coat is bay or mid-brown with black markings: two facial stripes, a black forehead, a dorsal stripe, and black belly and lower legs. Does, but not bucks, may also be solid black. Its milk production record per lactation is 2,116 kg, and a breeders' association was formed around 1977.
