About the miniature zebu
The zebu is a domestic cattle of South Asian origin, also known as indicine or humped cattle. It differs from taurine cattle in its fatty hump on the shoulders, large dewlap and sometimes drooping ears. Zebu are well adapted to hot tropical savanna and steppe climates, with higher tolerance for drought, heat and sunlight, and are raised throughout the tropics. They are used for draught and riding, for dairy and beef, and for hides and dung for fuel and manure. Small breeds such as the Nadudana, also called the miniature zebu, are kept as pets like dogs. Zebu were domesticated 6,000 to 7,000 years ago at Mehrgarh, in what is now northwest Pakistan.
