About the guira cuckoo

The guira cuckoo is a gregarious bird of open and semi-open habitats in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and northeastern Argentina. It is about 34 cm long, with dark brown streaked upperparts, a pale underside, yellow-orange eyes and bill, and a prominent orange-rufous crest. It forages in trees and on the ground, often in flocks of up to 18, taking insects, worms, tadpoles, frogs, eggs, nestlings and small mammals. Unlike many Old World cuckoos, it does not parasitise other birds' nests. Several females may share a community nest holding up to 20 eggs.
