About the australian snake-necked turtle
The eastern long-necked turtle, also called the common snake-necked turtle, is a freshwater turtle found across southeastern Australia and north to the Fitzroy River in Queensland. It is a side-necked turtle, bending its head sideways into its shell. The carapace is usually black or brown, and the narrow neck reaches about 60% of carapace length. It lives in a wide variety of water bodies and is an opportunistic carnivore eating insects, worms, tadpoles, frogs, small fish, crustaceans and carrion. Threatened turtles release an offensive-smelling fluid from musk glands, earning it the nickname stinker.
