About Pine Grove Zoo
Pine Grove Zoo is located at 1200 West Broadway in Little Falls, Minnesota. According to the zoo's website, it describes itself as a place where families grow closer, curiosity is sparked, and community pride thrives, with an emphasis on hands-on education, wildlife conservation, and family experiences in natural habitats. The zoo's stated mission is to promote environmental education and conservation while creating a progressive zoological park in central Minnesota.
The zoo is not accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Its website credits the zoo's growth to volunteers, staff, a board of directors, and a partnership with the City of Little Falls; donations are directed to Friends of Pine Grove Zoo. The Wikipedia article on Little Falls describes Pine Grove Primeval Park and Zoo as sitting among pines on the west side of town within a 70-acre park that also has walking trails, a picnic and playground area, a granite council circle, and a rustic log shelter.
History
The zoo was established in 1913. The zoo's website says it began as a drive-by zoo with very little educational impact, with animals housed in small concrete cages. In 1991, a group of volunteers was formed to help create natural, spacious habitats. The zoo says it now draws over 30,000 visitors each year from all 50 states and 13 countries.
Exhibits and habitats
The zoo's website says the collection includes more than 35 animal species. Recent additions named on the site include kangaroos, river otters, North American porcupines, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and a sloth named Syd.
Conservation and programs
The zoo's website lists guided tours, field trips, and zoo camps. It also lists a Zoo To You outreach program, a Wild Connections program, animal adoption, and volunteer opportunities. Memberships are offered, and donations are accepted through GiveMN.

AZAThe Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Accredited members have passed an independent inspection of animal care and welfare, safety, conservation and education, repeated every five years. Many smaller facilities never apply, so “not accredited” isn't a verdict on its own. What accreditation means · How we check this
