About the abdim's stork

Abdim's stork is the smallest species of stork, measuring 73 cm and weighing just over 1 kg. It is black with white underparts, grey legs, red knees and feet, and a grey bill, with red facial skin in front of the eye. It lives in open habitats across Sub-Saharan Africa, from the Sahel to South Africa, and a smaller population occurs in Yemen. It feeds mostly on locusts, caterpillars and other large insects, and also takes small reptiles, amphibians, mice, crabs and eggs.
