Zoos in Virginia

Virginia has nine listed zoos, with the largest concentration along the coast and around Richmond. Virginia Zoological Park in Norfolk opened in 1900 on 53 acres and has held AZA accreditation since 1974. Across Hampton Roads, the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News is also AZA accredited, and Bluebird Gap Farm in Hampton has been open since 1966. Richmond has Maymont, a 100-acre estate with a Virginia Wildlife Trail and a farm, along with Metro Richmond Zoo. In the Blue Ridge, Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke sits atop Mill Mountain and highlights red wolves, bald eagles and black bears. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is a 422-acre theme park, and NOVA Wild covers Northern Virginia.
