Zoos in Indiana
Indiana's zoos are spread across the state, from big-city institutions to small regional parks and a wolf research center. Indianapolis Zoo covers 93 acres at White River State Park and, in 1996, became the first institution in the country to earn triple accreditation as a zoo, aquarium, and botanical garden. Fort Wayne Zoo has occupied 40 acres inside Franke Park since 1965 and is organized into biomes such as African Journey and Australian Adventure. Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville opened in 1928 and is built around Lake Victoria. In Battle Ground, Wolf Park, founded in 1972, focuses on wolf behavior research and hosts evening Howl Night programs. Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend and Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette round out the list.
