About Exotic Animal Experience

Exotic Animal Experience is a private, seven-acre interactive zoo in the Orlando, Florida area. Its website says it is about 15 minutes from the international airport and 35 minutes from Orlando's main attractions, and north of Highway 528. It offers hands-on visits rather than viewing animals from a distance. The site says it is licensed with the USDA and Florida Fish and Wildlife. It is not accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

History

The website says the facility was founded in 2010 by Leslie-Ann Rush. It started with only a handful of species and has grown to house more than 40 animals. According to the site, animals are raised on-site from infancy and socialized with humans early, including living in the owners' home when they were very young.

Exhibits and habitats

Its homepage lists species including African pygmy goats, black nose sheep, dromedary camels, capybaras, greater galagos, kangaroos, spider monkeys, lemurs, muntjac deer, owl monkeys, prehensile-tailed porcupines, sloths and wallabies. The animals page profiles named residents:

  • Lemurs including Liam, a ringtail described as the first resident, Lolli, a tri-colored ruffed lemur, and Charlie, a red-fronted brown lemur
  • Kangaroos including Rooster, a western gray kangaroo, Olaf, a red kangaroo, and a wallaby named Wally
  • Sloths including Blossom, Saki and their son Bud
  • Muntjac deer named Mojo and Mia
  • Olive, an owl monkey, Peeper, a greater galago, and Quinn, a prehensile-tailed porcupine
  • Leo, a capybara, and Jakoby, a spider monkey
  • Baby Girl and Dahlia, dromedary camels

Conservation and programs

The site lists several visit formats. Group and private visits last 2 hours, are for ages 10 and up, and include petting animals and entering the lemur and kangaroo enclosures. The Ultimate Experience adds holding a bush baby, owl monkey and sloth. The Private Ultimate Experience lasts 2.5 hours and includes interaction with spider monkey Jakoby. Simply Sloth sessions last 30 minutes semi-private or 45 minutes private, for ages 10 and up. Monkey Mayhem, for ages 16 and up, centers on playing with Jakoby. Prices are on the zoo's website.

AZAThe Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Accredited members have passed an independent inspection of animal care and welfare, safety, conservation and education, repeated every five years. Many smaller facilities never apply, so “not accredited” isn't a verdict on its own. What accreditation means · How we check this
