Zoos in North Dakota

North Dakota has four zoos, spread across the state's eastern and central towns. Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot dates to 1914 and Wikipedia describes it as the state's oldest zoo, while Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton, which opened in 1933 on 29 acres, is described as the first zoo built in North Dakota; the zoo is normally open May through October. Dakota Zoo in Bismarck, founded by Marc and Betty Christianson with volunteers, covers 90 acres, and Red River Zoo in Fargo opened in 1999 and focuses on animals from climates similar to North Dakota's. Dakota Zoo, Red River Zoo and Roosevelt Park Zoo are all AZA-accredited.
