Zoos in Oregon
Oregon's five listed zoos include one major city zoo and several smaller wildlife centers, mostly in the western half of the state. The Oregon Zoo in Portland's Washington Park opened in 1888, covers 64 acres, is AZA-accredited, and keeps roughly 1,800 animals across themed habitat areas. Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene focuses on birds of prey, pairing a wildlife hospital with more than 30 resident education birds. In southern Oregon, Great Cats World Park near Cave Junction opened in 2005 on 11 acres and offers fully guided walking tours of its cats, and Wildlife Images in Grants Pass combines a rehabilitation center with a zoo. Gramma Roses Petting Zoo in Prineville adds a hands-on option east of the Cascades. Outside the Oregon Zoo, none of these is AZA-accredited.
