Zoos in Idaho
Idaho's zoos are mostly small and regional, stretching from the Boise area to the eastern part of the state. Zoo Boise sits in Julia Davis Park and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, as is Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park, a small city zoo that was the first in Idaho to earn that accreditation. Zoo Idaho in Pocatello has been open since 1932 on 25 acres in Ross Park and specializes in animals native to the Intermountain West. Two Boise-area sites go beyond the usual zoo format: the World Center for Birds of Prey, the Peregrine Fund headquarters on 580 acres overlooking the city, and Idaho Reptile Zoo in Garden City. Yellowstone Bear World in Rexburg, a drive-thru park open since 1998, lies about 80 miles from Yellowstone National Park.
