About Highwire Deer and Animal Farm
Highwire Deer and Animal Farm is at 68 Park Road in Woodbury, Connecticut. Its website describes a large family of exotic and wonderful animals that visitors can visit with, touch, pet and feed. The farm is not accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
History
According to the farm's About page, its owners have been caring for animals at Highwire since 1982. The page is signed by John Hardisty and Carol Bacon, who are also named as the contacts for the sponsorship program.
Exhibits and habitats
The About page describes a family of exotic and not-so-exotic animals, naming goats, deer, a kangaroo and a "Z-Donk." The farm's sponsorship page lists the animals that can be sponsored: camel, zebra, kangaroo, mini cow, mini horse, mini donkey, deer, alpaca, tortoise, coati, birds, pig and goat.
Conservation and programs
The farm runs a Sponsor An Animal program, which it describes as a way to help with the animals' housing, food and medical needs. Sponsorships last one seasonal year, more than one person, group or business can sponsor the same animal, and sponsors receive free passes depending on the animal chosen. Sponsorship levels are on the farm's website.
Planning your visit
The farm is open seasonally and weather permitting. As listed on the farm's website for September 2026, hours were Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with gates closing at 3, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a request to arrive before 3 because the gates close at 4. For October, the website lists weekends only, Saturday and Sunday, with gates open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the same request to arrive before 3.
The website says that if it rains or is very hot, the farm will either not open or will close early, and asks visitors to call 203-263-4522 before coming if the weather is questionable or they are traveling a distance. Entry is cash only, and children under age 2 are admitted free; ticket details are on the farm's website.

Distances are straight-line. A dash means we haven't confirmed that detail yet, not that the zoo lacks it.
AZAThe Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Accredited members have passed an independent inspection of animal care and welfare, safety, conservation and education, repeated every five years. Many smaller facilities never apply, so “not accredited” isn't a verdict on its own. What accreditation means · How we check this
