Zoos in West Virginia

West Virginia has two zoos in the sources, one in the northern Panhandle and one in the north-central part of the state. Oglebay Good Zoo in Wheeling is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It occupies 30 acres inside the 1,650-acre Oglebay Park, with a collection of more than 68 species that includes cheetahs, red pandas, and kangaroos. About 18 miles southeast of Morgantown, Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo in Kingwood, also known as the West Virginia Zoo, is not AZA accredited and runs seasonally from April through October, with weekend-only hours in November. Visitors there can feed over half the animals, and the collection includes chimpanzees, grizzly bears, and several types of tiger and leopard.
