Zoos in Georgia
Georgia pairs one major city zoo with a scatter of rescue-focused and farm-style animal parks. Zoo Atlanta, AZA-accredited, has occupied its Grant Park site since 1889. Elsewhere the options are smaller and mostly unaccredited: Bear Hollow Zoo in Athens is run by Athens-Clarke County and houses non-releasable native wildlife, Chehaw Park in Albany wraps a Wild Animal Park inside nearly 800 acres of swamp and pine habitat, and Wild Adventures near Valdosta, founded in 1996, combines animals with rides and a water park. North Georgia has places such as Pettit Creek Farms in Cartersville, an 80-acre working farm with a petting zoo.
