Zoos in Delaware
Delaware's three listed zoos are all small, and they are spread from north to south. Brandywine Zoo is a 4.7-acre city zoo in Wilmington's Brandywine Park that opened in 1905 and has held AZA accreditation since 1981. In the north-central part of the state, 3 Palms Zoo & Education Center in Townsend describes itself as Delaware's only rescue zoo, housing surrendered exotic pets and non-releasable native wildlife on a working farm. Down in Frankford, Coastal Wilds is built around guided visits rather than self-guided strolling, and a ticket is required. Of the three, only Brandywine is AZA-accredited, so it helps to check each site's own hours and visit format before driving.
